AUGUST

There’s Something About Mira by Sonali Dev

✨ Friend of a Mom Book Club Pick for August ✨

What if the life you built—the one that looked perfect on paper—wasn’t really yours at all?

Meet Mira Salvi. She has everything she’s supposed to want: a secure future, a fiancé everyone loves, and a job she’s proud of. But when she ends up taking their engagement trip to New York City alone, she gets a little more time to think than she planned.

Then she finds a lost engagement ring. One simple social media post to return it goes viral, drawing in a swarm of people eager to claim it—but only one who seems to care about finding its real owner: Krish Hale, a brooding, ambitious journalist determined to get the story.

Reluctantly partnering with him, Mira dives into an unexpected adventure across the city. As they track down the truth about the ring, she starts asking herself even harder questions: Is this really the life I want? Was there a reason I found this ring?

It’s a heartfelt, funny, and searching story about second chances, serendipity, and the courage to reimagine your own happy ending. Perfect for moms who know that sometimes you have to get a little lost to find what really matters.

About the Author: Sonali Dev

Sonali Dev has been telling stories since she was eight years old, when she wrote and staged a play for her neighborhood’s Diwali celebration in Mumbai. Since then, life has taken her on quite the journey—from earning degrees in architecture and writing, to moving across the world, starting a family, and building a writing career one page at a time.

Now living in the Chicago suburbs, Sonali is a mom to two teenagers (who keep her both patient and humble), a devoted wife to her very amused husband, and proud caretaker of the world’s most perfect dog.

When her love for storytelling returned full force—she likes to say it happened with her first gray hair—Sonali began writing novels that blend heartfelt romance, sharp humor, and deep insights into Indian culture. Her books have landed on Best of the Year lists from NPR, the Washington Post, Library Journal, and Kirkus, and have earned awards from the American Library Association and RT Book Reviews.

Shelf Awareness calls her “one of the best and bravest romance novelists working today.” But for Sonali, it all comes down to writing stories that reflect the beautiful, tangled, messy, and meaningful work of building a life—something every mom knows a thing or two about.

Sort of Seeing Someone by Emily Bond

✨ Love, fate, and a little wishcraft... ✨

For most people, love is a matter of the heart. But for Moonie Miller, it’s a matter of the hand.

When she wakes up on her 26th birthday with the ability to glimpse people’s futures through palm-to-palm contact, Moonie’s world flips upside down. One minute she’s mixing candles and crystals in her Chicago apartment, the next she’s the face of an Insta-famous apothecary brand. But her visions? Those are strictly off-limits… until a certain Swedish engineer walks into her life.

Tall, analytical, and maddeningly practical, Olrik Zetterlind is everything Moonie doesn’t want in a soulmate. But fate—and her freaky new gift—has other plans.

In a city of skeptics and influencers, can a pragmatic numbers guy and a reluctant witch find something real? Or is their story just stardust and smoke?

For fans of magical realism, quirky opposites-attract rom-coms, and modern love stories with a mystical twist, Sort of Seeing Someone is spellbinding fun with heart.
