Author of The Man Next Door
Love in the Time of Serial Killers meets The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window in this delightful romp about a recently broke divorcee who moves in with her house-bound mother only to spend their days spying on her grumpy, mysterious, and sexy new neighbor.
Zona never thought her life was headed this way, but here she is, newly divorced and moving back in with her mom, Louise. After her gambling addicted ex-husband lost all of their savings, including their daughter's college fund, she doesn't really have a choice. She's cutting every coupon she can and she's going to help put her daughter through nursing school, even if it kills her.
This wasn't Louise's plan, either, laid up at home with a broken leg after one unfortunate tumble on the senior singles cruise she'd been looking forward to for months. But if she's going to spend all her time at home, at least she's got her daughter there with her. And there's some hot new eye candy next door to distract them both from their troubles. He appears to be single and just around Zona's age. Could his arrival be the universe making amends for everything it's put her through?
Maybe the universe isn't feeling as generous as Louise hoped. There’s something lurking under that mans surface charm, something…dangerous? And who's the woman they can hear him in all-out shouting matches with on the other side of the fence? When the woman seems to disappear without a trace, imaginations run wild. Or at least, Zona hopes it's just her mother's imagination...

Author I draw inspiration from:
The first author who comes to mind is my friend and mentor Debbie Macomber. I’ve always admired her drive and dedication. Debbie has always kept a tight schedule, which has enabled her to balance a full workday with spending time with family and friends. I’ve learned so much about the business of writing from her and am still impressed by how generous she is. I want to be a Debbie when I grow up!

Favorite place to read a book:
In bed at night, under the covers.
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
Jack Reacher of the Lee Child Reacher series. He’d have showered and changed into clean clothes first! (If you’ve read any of those books you’ll know what I mean.) Of course, he would fall madly in love with me and instead of moving on alone to his next great adventure, would take me with him where I would help him take down bad guys.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
I always wrote stories even as a child. So maybe then. I wish my mom had kept some of the “books” I created. Heaven knows she kept every other imaginable bit of memorabilia.
Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:
Don’t like ebooks as it’s a pain going back and forth between pages. Love hardbacks for trophy books but mostly buy paperback. They fit the budget best.
The last book I read:
I last book I read and loved was The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley by Courtney Walsh. Such loveable heroine!

Pen & paper or computer:
Computer. So much faster!
Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
Prudence Tremaine in Georgette Heyer’s The Masqueraders. She’s such a great character, brave and kind all at once. I would happily go adventuring with her.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:
A songwriter, which was my first career choice. I still dabble at that.
Favorite decade in fashion history:
The eighties for sure! Well, without the shoulder pads. Loved the evening wear especially, and the eighties had the sexiest shoes ever. I also loved the big hair. (I had it!)
Place I’d most like to travel:
I would love to return to Bamburg, Germany, one of my favorite destinations. Actually, just about any town or village in Bavaria. I lived there when I was first married and have made many trips back since. Love the country, the architecture, the food, and the people.
My signature drink:
A brown cow! Vanilla milkshake mixed with root beer. Yum!
Favorite artist:
For paintings: Monet. For music: Sting and K.D. Lang – it’s a tie! Love his songs and love her phenomenal voice.
Number one on my bucket list:
Make the New York Times bestseller list. It’s been evading me for years. Who knows? Maybe with this book.
