Author of One in Four

Dr. Laurel Harlow can’t believe she’s agreed to do a reality TV show. But her years as a chemical dependency counselor and personal history with the show’s director make her the obvious choice. Treating a mansion full of former child stars on the road to recovery is the tallest order of her career―especially when one of them turns up dead while the cameras are still rolling.

In a house full of narcissists vying for the spotlight, everyone’s hiding something…including Laurel. An investigation could expose a past she’d rather keep buried. But among the attention-starved patients, only one of them is a predator. And Laurel is skilled at spotting a predator when she sees one.

As she hunts a killer in her present, the unsettling truths of Laurel’s past are forced into the light. But this time, she’ll face her demons head on. She’ll stop at nothing to expose a murderer, even if it means risking everything she holds dear.

Favorite place to read a book:

Anywhere outside but I love a good book next to the pool or laying on a beach.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

I'd pick Pema Chodron. The psychology of Buddhism saved my life at a time when I really needed it and she was one of my biggest teachers. I would love to meet her in person. I would ask her all about how she learned to let go and accept life on life's terms without struggle.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

I've wanted to be a writer since I was a little girl. Before I could write, I used to have my mom write down stories for me. I wrote my first 100 page book when I was in fourth grade. It was called the Overnighters:) My education and experience for twenty years is psychology and trauma, but I found a way to bring my two passions together. My research throughout graduate school examined the way writing could be used as a way to heal from traumatic events. It hasn't been until the last ten years since I started publishing my work, though, and that has been an entirely different journey.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

I am a paperback girlie. I don't listen to a lot of fiction on audiobook, but I listen to a ton of nonfiction on audio.

The last book I read:

Just finished an advanced review copy for Chevy Stevens called the hitchhiker and I absolutely loved it.

Pen & paper or computer:

It took me years to write a first draft on the computer, and I only had to learn to do it because of time. At the end of the day, my writing always flows best with a pen in my hadn.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

Ramona Quimby She's my soulmate.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

I'd go back to practicing psychology. Probably not trauma. I would teach.

Favorite decade in fashion history:

The nineties.

Place I’d most like to travel:

Australia. I've never been there and it's on my bucket list.

My signature drink:

Jameson and ginger ale with extra limes.

Favorite artist:

Love Kendrick Lamar.

Number one on my bucket list:

LOL. Just said-visiting Australia.
