Favorite place to read a book:
The beach!
Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:
Niche, but Vivienne Volker from Emmalea Russo's VIVIENNE, a fictional surrealist artist who lived in Paris and had a relationship with real life artist Hans Bellmer. By the time the book begins, she is an old woman living with her daughter and granddaughter in a fabulously ramshackle house in rural Pennsylvania and her artwork is about to be rediscovered, which leads to the exposure of her secrets. Russo created such a stylist, smart octogenarian artist and I wanted to know everything about her.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:
When I was in 4th grade, I wrote a poem that I realized was pretty good. It was a way for me to process my big feelings and share them, since I was excruciatingly shy as a child.

All of the above! The only con is that I can't dogear and highlight on audio.
The last book I read:
Re-reading Lisa Jewell's NONE OF THIS IS TRUE. Five stars, so good. I want to know how she did it.

I handwrite write notes and thoughts and ideas in a notebook, which is sloppy and disorganized, and I do my real writing on a computer. I can type faster than I can handwrite, and I rely on spell check!
Book character I think I’d be best friends with:
Vivienne! I would follow her around like a puppy.
If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:
I worked in art galleries for most of my adult life, but maybe I'd like to be a professor (if I could get over my stage fright).
Favorite decade in fashion history:
Place I’d most like to travel:
Japan! I want to see the cities and eat the food and experience the culture.
My signature drink:
Champagne!

About Laura Leffler:
Author Interview - Laura Leffler
Laura Leffler is a writer and art historian who builds stories within the strange and wonderful--and sometimes terrifying--art world. After receiving a master’s degree in post-war art, she spent more than a decade working in commercial galleries, doing everything from art fairs sales to condition reporting and logistics. Along the way, she witnessed more of that glittering world’s dark underbelly than she thought possible. She currently lives in Colorado with her family. Tell Them You Lied is her first novel.
