Author of MOMS LIKE US

Set in the cutthroat and neck-lifted world of private school parenting in Los Angeles, Moms Like Us is a comedic cautionary tale about how far mothers will go to protect their children, and their secrets.

That someone might end up dead at the Palms School’s annual glamping trip in Santa Barbara wasn’t far-fetched. Taking city people into the woods was begging for murder. What was surprising was how far these mothers would go to cover it up.

Meet our moms: Milly craves recognition from her mommunity for devoting herself to the school; Jillian is terrified that her daughter won’t get into their preferred private middle school, or any school; Dawn just returned to LA after being banished with her canceled husband and their son, and wants her old life back; and Heather, who secretly engineered Dawn’s husband’s fall from grace, is shocked that they have returned and, worse, are up for membership at her private tennis club. Over her dead body.

In the ferocious, manicured world of the wealthy and well intentioned, how long can secrets stay hidden, and how far will these women go to protect their children, their reputations, and their darkest desires?

Author I draw inspiration from:

Judy Blume. She was my first love when it came to authors, and I reread her books to this day. ARE YOU THERE GOD was my favorite, and then SUMMER SISTERS became my favorite as I got older. I felt like I grew up to and with her books...and she kept writing for me as I matured...and then her books were waiting for my daughter when she was ready decades later.

Favorite place to read a book:

In bed!

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

This is tough. There are so many. Maybe Libby from FLEISHMAN IS IN TROUBLE By Taffy Brodesser-Akner -- that book and that character in particular really resonated with me. I don't love elevators and I think Libby and I would have a lot to discuss.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

Another tough one. I kind of still don't know that I want to be an author to be honest though I'm grateful to be one. It can be very lonely!

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

I love holding a real book in my hands (and I have a packed book case in my office that I love to look at because I feel like all my friends are there), but I also love the ease and mobility of my Kindle, so I move among hardcovers, paperbacks, and my Kindle, and usually am reading more two-three books at a time. I've been training myself to listen to more audiobooks but I feel I get distracted much easier listening than actually reading. I find romantic comedies are easier for me to listen to and stay present versus dark thrillers.

The last book I read:

THE WEDDING PEOPLE by Alison Espach -- I just loved it!

Pen & paper or computer:

Computer. Definitely computer. I can barely read my own handwriting BUT when I get notes from editors/producers/other writers/etc, I always write those by hand...I'm not sure why! I think I process them better when I then type them into a document from the notes I took during the conversation. Also, I doodle nervously when I get notes so I think that's part of it too.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

Is it weird to say Libby again from Fleishman? Her intelligence, authenticity, and humor reminds me so much of all my closest girl friends.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

TV and feature writer...and/or a travel writer

Favorite decade in fashion history:

Honestly? I think right now. Sweatpants are in!

Place I’d most like to travel:

I've never been to Spain and I've always wanted to go! I haven't been to Europe in over two decades and I can't wait to go back -- my kids have never been and I can't wait to see it through their eyes. I'm also dying to go to the Galapagos and Japan...

My signature drink:

Very cold, very dry Sancerre (on the rocks!)

Favorite artist:

Slim Aarons

Number one on my bucket list:

Traveling with my family to places we haven't been before.
