Author I draw inspiration from:

An author I draw inspiration from is Dr. Andrew Weil. When I was in college, I read his book Spontaneous Healing, and it really inspired my wellness journey and philosophy. I found it empowering to learn that what we do daily has a tremendous impact on our overall health and well-being. I also appreciated his personal stories and the importance of harmonizing all your life domains.

Favorite place to read a book:

On the porch of my family’s lake home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin—with my golden retriever Daisy by my side.

Book character I’d like to be stuck in an elevator with:

I would love to be stuck in an elevator with Jay Gatsby for F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. I imagine us having an engaging conversation about life and love and then being invited to one of his memorable parties.

The moment I knew I wanted to become an author:

In 6th grade I knew I wanted to become an author. My favorite place in the world was the Palatine library. I used to check out books and read them by flashlight. I felt so transformed by the words on the pages and thought it would be meaningful to share my thoughts and creativity with the world.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audiobook:

I’m old school and like hardcover books. I dislike ebooks because I love holding something tangible and flipping through the pages. It de-stresses me to get away from technology and transform myself into another world.

The last book I read:

The last book I read was The Black Bird Oracle by Deborah Harkness. I love her All Souls series and this book. I used to teach American Literature when I was a high school English teacher. I enjoyed teaching the students Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and the history of the Salem Witch Trials. This book really tapped into that historical period for me.

Pen & paper or computer:

In terms of my writing style, I’m a computer person for the original content. But then I like to print out my pages and edit them by hand. My husband tells me I waste too much paper, but I have a hard time getting my final thoughts together when I’m looking on the screen. This was very much my process when I was working on my masters in mental health counseling and writing research papers.

Book character I think I’d be best friends with:

I would love to be best friends with Elizabeth Bennett from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. This beloved character is intelligent, witty, loyal, and a woman way before her time. She reminds me a lot of my grandmother Betty to whom I dedicated my book, Wellness Reimagined.

If I weren’t an author, I’d be a:

If I wasn’t an author, I’d be a health and wellness coach and consultant. I’m deeply passionate about helping professionals live a more fulfilling harmonious life. Being an author has allowed me to share my passion with the world.

Favorite decade in fashion history:

I was a teenager in the 90s so that’s still my favorite era of fashion. Although I always thought it would be fun to wear the dresses of the Victorian era for a day.

Place I’d most like to travel:

One of my favorite places in the world to travel is Austria. I love the culture and history of Vienna, as well as Salzburg where they filmed my favorite movie The Sound of Music. Exploring the Christmas markets with my family is one of my most treasured memories.

My signature drink:

My signature drink is hot green tea.

Favorite artist:

I love the impressionist painter Claude Monet. I find his landscapes gorgeous, and they make me feel happy and at peace.

Number one on my bucket list:

My number one item on my bucket list was writing a book. Now that I have completed this momentous accomplishment, I’m excited to see what’s next. I see a cookbook in my future…

Anything else you'd like to add:

About that cookbook on the bucket list: Wellness Reimagined has 2 appendices about food. I grew up cooking with my Polish grandma and my background is in nutrition. I added the meal plan and recipes because I wanted to at least put a little of my other passion in my first book.
